TIP Reads

21 May 2010 Written by

Designed for a casual, intimate setting, TIP Reads is a great way to hear new or noteworthy works read aloud. It's also the perfect place for a budding thespian still too shy to audition, to get to read a role. TIP Reads rotates locations and combines play reading with potluck and friendship. Depending on the size of the venue, attendance may be limited to first come first served. Please use our CONTACT PAGE to request more information, or refer to the EVENTS PAGE to find out when the next TIP Reads is scheduled.

TIP Youth

REGISTRATION FOR TIP YOUTH'S 2016-2017 SEASON IS NOW CLOSED.

We are proud to announce the dates for our seventh youth program.

TIP Youth aims to provide students with a solid foundation of knowledge and practical training in theatre and performing arts culminating in performances of a fully staged musical. We believe that the experience gained from participation in the TIP Youth program will be beneficial in many aspects of both student and future adult lives, whether they perform professionally or not. TIP Youth is more than an ‘acting school’, as it deals with performing in a production with others as well as the 'total' theatrical experience.

==Production Week

Tuesday, April 18th – Sunday, April 23rd, 2017

Performances - 4/20(Thurs) & 4/21(Fri) in the evening

4/22(Sat) & 4/23(Sun) matinee and evening

Students in each group will alternate performance day and time.

Workshops are given on topics such as foundation, core, voice, movement, staging, safety, tech and much more. Students learn a whole new glossary of vocabulary associated with acting and the theatre. Students develop skills like public speaking, ways to handle self-consciousness and taking pride in team achievements. TIP Youth offers students a supportive environment to experiment, try new things, make mistakes, and improve in their areas of development. They learn that through hard work, combined with their rehearsals and other fun activities, they can create a fantastic show that many others can enjoy. Students learn that it is the process as much as the end result that is important.

There are two age groups in the program. “Act 1” is for 8 to 12 year olds, and “Act 2” is for 13 to 17 year olds. Students must be 8 or older by the first rehearsal date to be admitted. Please note that as this is an English speaking program we are unable to provide support for students in Japanese. We would expect all students to be fluent or near-native speakers of English as a minimum requirement.

COST

The full course of six months of professional level workshops, intensive production week rehearsals, plus all costs associated with the production is ¥87,000. Included in this fee are the TIP Youth t-shirt and access to professional photos.

Payment in full should be made in cash at orientation on October 23rd. Bank transfers will also be accepted.

Please note that the director’s casting decision is final and we will not be able to provide a refund in the case that a student or parent is not satisfied with the part assigned.

VENUE

With very few exceptions, all TIP Youth rehearsals and events are at Our Space in Hatagaya. (2-1-1 Hatagaya, Shibuya-ku, Tokyo 151-0072)

More on Fundraising

With TIP being a 100% volunteer run organization, every bit of our profit is put right back into our productions. It is only with your help that we are able to grow our company and meet the standard of English-language theatre TIP has been producing for the last 117 years. Throughout the year we have targeted fundraisers for new equipment we need. In April 2014, the TIP community raised ¥800,000 to purchase a new system of pin mics.

Even when we aren't actively fundraising, TIP is ready to receive your donation. Please see our DONATE page for information about becoming a sponsor or a patron. And thank you for the continued financial support!

Second Stage

21 Jun 2013 Written by

TIP launched Second Stage in 2009 with the goal of providing an opportunity for artists to present new and innovative shows in intimate, creative settings, and to offer Tokyo audiences exciting new theatrical experiences different from those in the main season lineup. Presented in "black box" style, Second Stage is intimate with its smaller casts, creative venues, and playing to a limited number of patrons. It is a great place to get your feet wet in the world of theatre or try a new endeavor out, such as acting or directing.

Second Stage productions occur throughout the season placed between MainStage productions based on a number of criteria. Venues include Our Space in Hatagaya, Trance Mission Theater in Sangubashi, and other black box locations around Tokyo. See our ACCESS page for more information.

We are always accepting proposals for Second Stage productions. If you have a production (either published or original) that you would like to produce, please apply using the following format:
