Tokyo
International Players has been entertaining Tokyo theatregoers
since 1896, making us Japan's longest-running English-language
community theatre.
TIP is 100% volunteer-run. We are always seeking new
faces to join us and help continue to provide quality
entertainment to the Tokyo community. Whether it's backstage,
onstage, or helping out with fundraising or administration,
we've got a job for you!
TIP Volunteers Registry
Hello from Tokyo International Players! We want to thank
everyone who has shown interest in helping out, no matter
how small or great your commitment.
In light of the fact that our system had many cracks
and voids that both people and emails fell through,
we are overhauling our registry and communication so
that everyone knows what they need to know far enough
in advance.
So we’d like you to take five minutes to answer
the questions below and send them to this address (please
put “TIP volunteer” in the subject line):

Lou McLeod, TIP Volunteer Co-ordinator.
****
1. Name, age, gender, occupation, contact details (mobile
phone is fine).
2. What would you enjoy helping out with at TIP? Please
list any specific skills you can offer. (eg. Carpentry
and construction, costume design and sewing, or just
a pair of willing hands!)
3. What sort of time can you spare for us? (eg “weeknights
from 6 to 9pm” or “Saturdays” or “Monday
mornings only” or anything!)
If you have any additional queries, add them to your
answers and we WILL get back to you. We’ll compile
an FAQ list soon, so ask away!

2007-2008 Season Volunteer Schedule
Here is a rough schedule for this season at TIP. Commitment levels are just to give you a general idea. This may vary per production and we will not ask you to commit to anything beyond your own availability. We’ll give you more details and specific requests as time progresses… but for now, get those dates in your calendars !
Box Office Coordinator
TIP is looking for an organization fiend to work Box Office. Tasks include checking our email and voice mail boxes, making spreadsheets for our performances, and responding to inquiries. Only really busy during the week preceeding one of our shows (there will be help!).
Corporate Sponsorship Person
TIP is looking for an entrepreneurial person to pursue corporate sponsorships. This is NOT a volunteer position. Compensation will be given to those who bring in new sponsors. Compensation to be discussed upon the expression of interest.
Webmaster/Email/Newsletter Person
TIP is looking for a new webmaster and newsletter maestro. We will train you over the summer so you can take over our web-based operations starting in the Fall. This position is not so time-heavy.
Publicity Committee Members
The Publicity Committee is looking for new members to join our lean ranks. We need help with such activities as going to professional meetings of other organizations to talk up TIP, helping us field calls with the press, sending out materials and updates, and other vague responsibilities. The work load shouldn’t be heavy at all, especially with the more people we have in. Those interested in working with the Publicity Committee please
Graphic Designers
TIP is looking for new graphic designers to join our small, overworked design crew! Responsibilities include designing fliers, posters, ads, etc for our productions.
Production Committee Members
The Production Committee is looking for new members to be a part of the process of selecting what plays and musicals TIP will do in upcoming seasons. Specifically, we are looking for people who have a broad knowledge of plays and theatre. Responsibilities include reading many plays and musicals, attending regular meetings (especially in the period between September and February), figuring out the production schedule, and working to secure rights for the shows.

Finance Committee - Auditor
TIP’s Finance Committee is looking for someone to volunteer to audit our final balance sheets at the end of the year. Responsibilities only during the month of October.
Programs Coordinator
The Publicity Committee is looking for a Programs Coordinator for the 2007-2008 Season. Responsibilities include making a season brochure, as well as a program for each of the three productions for the season. You just really need to collect information and stay on deadlines.
Box Office Coordinator
TIP is looking for a Box Office Coordinator. Responsibilities include keeping tabs on our reservations via both email and cell phone, making spreadsheets of reservations and other pertinent info for each of our shows. The position is not time intensive, but really helps the operations at Front of House of each of our shows really flow well. Looking for someone ASAP for helping with our last show of the season, The Pirates of Penzance.
Intern Coordinator
TIP would love to pass on the craft of theatre production, and the best way to do so is with an intern program! For this, we would love to find an intern coordinator, who would be responsible for targeting international schools in the area, putting out feelers for interns with various skills and interests, as well as supervision of this little army of passionate young people.
Sunshine Chair
TIP is looking for someone to bring the light back to our lives. A "sunshine" chair is someone who does things like keep track of birthdays, births, and other special occasions involving TIP members. This also includes things like sending out condolence cards and flowers when bad things happen to people in our community as well.
