Audition Notice for Chitty Chitty Bang Bang

Tokyo International Players are pleased to announce auditions for our season finale, CHITTY CHITTY BANG BANG with music and lyrics by the legendary Sherman brothers; book by Jeremy Sams. Come help us bring everyone’s favorite flying car to life. The show is sure to be a huge hit with the entire family, it's a fantastic musical adventure with amazing stage spectacle and unforgettable songs.

 

WHAT TO BRING?:

 

Above 15 (Adult Role)

 

Please prepare the following:

 

  • a one minute comedic monologue that has been memorized.

  • a 32 bar cut of a musical theatre song to be sung acapella (the song must not be from the show.)

 

You may also be asked about your theatre/performance background and rehearsal availability.

 

10 - 15 years old (Children’s Role)

 

Please prepare the following:

 

  • a one minute monologue of your choice that has been memorized.

  • one chorus of “Truly Scrumptious”  (music will be sent when an audition slot is requested)

 

You may also be asked about your theatre/performance background and rehearsal availability.

SESSION 1: ADULTS -- Saturday, November 3rd, 2018 (14:00-22:00) - BY APPOINTMENT

SESSION 2: ADULTS -- Sunday, November 4th, 2018 (18:00-22:00) - NO AVAILABLE AUDITION SLOTS

SESSION 3: ADULTS -- Wednesday, November 7th, 2018 (18:00-21:00) - NO AVAILABLE AUDITION SLOTS

SESSION 4: UNDER 16 -- Saturday, November 10th, 2018 (14:00-20:00) BY APPOINTMENT

SESSION 5: ADULTS -- Saturday, November 10th, 2018 (20:00 - 22:00) BY APPOINTMENT

CALLBACK: Wednesday, November 14th, 2018 (18:30pm - 21:00) BY INVITATION

CALLBACK: Sunday, 18th November (17:30pm-22:00) BY INVITATION

 

PERFORMANCE DATES?:

May 16th-19th, 2019 (actors must also be available for tech/dress rehearsals on May 14th & 15th)

 

REHEARSAL SCHEDULE?:

Weekday evenings and weekend afternoons or evenings in various locations around central Tokyo. Two or three days per week in January /February and at least three or four days per week in March/April/May. NOTE: Not all actors will be called to every rehearsal.  We will aim to schedule rehearsals for the children’s ensemble for during the day at the weekend or early in the evening In the weeks running up to the show, however, we may need to call children for some later rehearsals.

 

CASTING BREAKDOWN?:

Around 40 actors (including 12 young performers, 10 years old and up). Some roles may entail a combination of understudy, ensemble, and/or backstage work. Tokyo International Players are committed to diversity and inclusion in casting; all actors will be considered for all roles regardless of race, age, gender identity, national origin, linguistic background, etc. There will be roles for performers of all levels of experience.

 

HOW TO SCHEDULE AN APPOINTMENT?:

Email auditions@tokyoplayers.org with your preferred audition date. Appointments will be scheduled in 15-minute increments for adults.  We will be running group auditions for actors who are 15 and under. In order to facilitate scheduling, we ask that you notify us of all your available dates. Callbacks are by invitation only.
