Entry Requirements: No specific skills required, other than some experience in theater and an interest in directing.

Required Materials: Notebook and pencil.

✍️Workshop Description:

This workshop will introduce you to stage directing and provide an overview of the production process. Over the course of two days we will discuss the following basic principles and needs of the director in theater.

* Choosing a script * Text analysis * Casting * Rehearsal process * Communicating with designers * Staging principles * Achieving vision

The workshop will also include a practical application where you will get the chance to direct a short scene and to present it for analysis. There will also be an opportunity to redirect scenes. For this exercise two person scenes will be provided. You will be expected to both take part in the scenes and to direct the other workshop attendees. By the end of the course you should have been introduced to the key aspects of directing for theater, gained a greater understanding of the production process, as well as having examined some techniques for working with actors in a rehearsal process.

👨‍🏫Instructor: Jonah Hagans Jonah has been involved in theater for most of his life and has directed more than a dozen productions for TIP including The Rocky Horror Show, Diary of Anne Frank, Avenue Q, and most recently Hand To God. His professional work includes feature films, network television series, commercials, voice-over and narration work, and stage work including over 10 years of national tours in both America and Japan.
