Audition Notice


Tokyo International Players are pleased to announce auditions for

our season finale, Rodger and Hammerstein’s Cinderella with

music by Richard Rodgers, lyrics by Oscar Hammerstein II and

new book by Douglas Carter Beane.  This beautiful adaptation

of their classic musical opened on Broadway in 2013.  

 

The show has a large singing and dancing ensemble with

character roles for actors age 10 and up, and actors in

principal roles age 18 and up.

 

WHAT TO BRING?:

 

Above 15 (Adult Role)

Please prepare the following:

  • a one minute comedic or dramatic monologue that has been memorized.

  • a 32 bar cut of a musical theatre song to be sung acapella
    (the song must not be from the show.)

 

You may also be asked about your theatre/performance background and rehearsal availability.

10 - 15 years old (Children’s Role)

Please prepare the following:

  • a one minute monologue of your choice that has been memorized.

  • one verse and chorus of any musical theatre song, to be song acapella (the song must not be from the show.)

PERFORMANCE DATES?:

May 21st-24th, 2020 (actors must also be available for tech/dress rehearsals on May 19th & 20th)

REHEARSAL SCHEDULE?:

Weekday evenings and weekend afternoons or evenings in various locations around central Tokyo. Two or three days per week in January /February and at least three or four days per week in March/April/May. NOTE: Not all actors will be called to every rehearsal.  We will aim to schedule rehearsals for the children’s ensemble for during the day at the weekend or early in the evening In the weeks running up to the show, however, we may need to call children for some later rehearsals.

CASTING BREAKDOWN?:

Around 30 actors (including 10 young performers, 10 years old and up). Some roles may entail a combination of understudy, ensemble, and/or backstage work. Tokyo International Players are committed to diversity and inclusion in casting; all actors will be considered for all roles regardless of race, color, gender identity, national origin, linguistic background, etc. There will be roles for performers of all levels of experience.

HOW TO SCHEDULE AN APPOINTMENT?:

Email auditions@tokyoplayers.org with your preferred audition date. Appointments will be scheduled in 15-minute increments for adults.  We will be running group auditions for actors who are under 16. In order to facilitate scheduling, we ask that you notify us of all your available dates. Callbacks are by invitation only.
