Tokyo International Players presents

Embark on an extraordinary voyage to a remote island where the exiled wizard Duchess Prospera orchestrates a tempest to shipwreck her enemies. Amidst the tumult, secrets are revealed and alliances tested, while young love emerges from chaos. As the island's magical inhabitants weave their spells, themes of power, forgiveness, and redemption unfold in a mesmerizing tale that transcends time. This production of Shakespeare's enchanting masterpiece will feature nods to classical Japanese performance traditions.

CAST

CHARLOTTE HAMMOND

Prospera

Charlotte trained in Musical Theatre at the prestigious London College of Music and went on to work as a professional stage and screen actress in the UK. She performed in multiple Off West End and fringe productions, commercials, award-winning short films, and sang her way around Europe with her vintage girl group. Since moving to Japan in January, Charlotte has been welcomed with open arms to TIP, having recently performed as Helene/Witch in BEAUTY AND THE BEAST, and she is thrilled to be performing alongside the talented cast of THE TEMPEST under Michelle’s exceptional direction.

OPHELIA ROSE

Ariel

Ophelia is excited to return to Shakespeare, having previously performed in A MIDSUMMER NIGHT’S DREAM and THE MERCHANT OF VENICE back in the U.S. while enrolled in a BFA program for musical theatre. This is her third production with TIP, after PRIDE AND PREJUDICE (2023) and BEAUTY AND THE BEAST (2024). She also performed with Tokyo Theatre for Children in their musical production of THE SNOW QUEEN (2022).

While her primary training is in musical theatre and dance, Ophelia has always had a soft spot for Shakespeare and Commedia dell’Arte, with the role of Ariel being a perfect opportunity to combine styles. When not onstage, Ophelia enjoys reading, playing video games, and coming up with new recipes for baked goods.

ALINA ITO

Miranda

Ferdinand

CARLOS QUIAPO

Alina is delighted to be playing the role of Miranda in TIP's production of THE TEMPEST! She was last seen in TIP's BEAUTY AND THE BEAST in May, although she looked quite different as Beauty's brother, Andre.

Alina has dabbled in a few different Shakespeare productions, including playing Hero in MUCH ADO ABOUT NOTHING and Mariana in an adaptation of MEASURE FOR MEASURE at Yale University, where she studied theater and computer science.

When she's not on stage, Alina is a journalist, writing for Tokyo Weekender.

Carlos Quiapo is a Filipino engineer based in Tokyo. He was last seen in Sheepdog Theatre’s production of HAMLET (2024) as Laertes. He was also part of Sheepdog’s THE WHALE (2023) as Elder Thomas.

With TIP, he was last seen in I LOVE YOU, YOU’RE PERFECT, NOW CHANGE (2023) and performed in SPRING AWAKENING (2019) as Melchior Gabor. When not performing, Carlos is also a set designer. He designed the set for HAMLET and THE WHALE.

Outside Japan, Carlos has performed in numerous musicals with his Manila-based home group, the Ateneo Blue Repertory. These include THE 25TH ANNUAL PUTNAM COUNTY SPELLING BEE (2014), SPRING AWAKENING (2013), and CARRIE (2011).

Carlos is very grateful to his bokkie for his support and patience during the entire production.

ZACH PICKLE

Caliban

Zach is thrilled to be in another production with TIP! This is his third production with the group, having performed as an ensemble member in LAFCADIO HEARN'S KWAIDAN and as Beast in BEAUTY AND THE BEAST. Zach studied Japanese and theatre at Hope College in the US. When not performing on a stage, you can find him teaching English to his kindergarten students.

AMY KING

Sycorax / Ensemble

Amy King has been in Japan for nine years but has only just rediscovered her love of theatre. She previously appeared as a tree, a bed, a statue, and many other miscellaneous objects in TIP's production of BEAUTY AND THE BEAST. She loved the experience so much that she couldn't stay away, and is delighted to have the chance to work with TIP again in this exciting interpretation of THE TEMPEST. Outside theatre, Amy has a crusty little dog with anxiety and a 10-day streak on Duolingo that she hopes will be at 45 by the time you are seeing this show.

Nicolas Gregoriades

Gonzalo

This is Nicolas's eighth main stage production with TIP, and he is ecstatic to be reunited with his FLEA IN HER EAR (2015) director and with many castmates from BEAUTY AND THE BEAST (2024). After briefly playing characters his own age (and even one who was meant to be younger!), he returns to familiar "older man" territory here. He would like to thank the team of Michelle, Brian, Jaz, India and his fellow nobles for the opportunity to perform Shakespeare with Japanese elements. In the real world, Nicolas teaches English and drama to some of the best students in the world at Saint Maur International School in Yokohama.

Georgia Ryder

Stephano

Georgia is ecstatic to return to the stage for her second TIP Main Stage show this season. Georgia initially completed her studies at the National Academy of Singing and Dramatic Arts in her home country of New Zealand, where she gained a Bachelor of Performing Arts. She went on to move to Japan six years ago and joined TIP soon after. She has been involved in many TIP shows, the most recent of which being BEAUTY AND THE BEAST (2024) directed by Karen Pauley. She is very excited to be able to reprise her role of Stephano in THE TEMPEST, as it was this role that ignited her passion for performing Shakespeare back in high school.

Nikita Noah has been involved in theatre and music since childhood, having notably taken part in a stage adaptation of Mozart's singspiel THE MAGIC FLUTE as Papageno. After globetrotting for years and training around Europe at Cours Florent in Paris, Nancy Tuñón Studio in Barcelona and die schauspielfabrik in Berlin, he debuted on the Tokyo stage last year in TIP's I LOVE YOU, YOU'RE PERFECT, NOW CHANGE, followed by BEAUTY AND THE BEAST, where he was last seen. He's set to make his first Japanese TV appearance this autumn, on NHK's SHIAWASE KIBUN NO SUPEINGO Spanish educational series. When he's not on stage, on camera or singing, he's freelancing as a multilingual translator while he completes a Master's Degree in Public Policy at the University of Tokyo.

Adrian

Hiep DO

Hiep Do is an aspiring Vietnamese actor by night, and a community associate by day in Tokyo. He was last seen in TIP’s 2024 production of BEAUTY AND THE BEAST as Emile, the youngest and quirkiest son, and in TIP’s 2023 production of I LOVE YOU, YOU'RE PERFECT, NOW CHANGE. He is exceptionally thrilled to be part of the talented cast of THE TEMPEST and is excited for his first Shakespeare production ever. Francisco

Roy Mason is where contemporary East and West meet, in every sense of that phrase. Born in Hong Kong. He is a British-Japanese national. He grew up in Tokyo and is bilingual in English and Japanese. Since he went to an international school throughout his childhood and adolecense, he has a complete and well formed authentic bicultural perspective. Roy studied acting at the United Performers' Studio in Tokyo, training mainly in the Meisner technique, but he has also broadly glanced into the different methods and techniques built upon the work of Stanislavski.
