Tokyo International Players is proud to present EVITA, the acclaimed musical by Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice, directed by Jon Reimer.

With the ongoing fascination with celebrity and the cult of personality in our social-media-obsessed world, EVITA stands out as a musical for the modern age. In the show, a smart, savvy woman rises to upper echelons to become the biggest of stars, only to have her legacy cut short with her early death. An already bare-stage musical, this production will go even further in order to highlight how Eva Perón’s dazzling splendor was crafted by her and everyone around her, creating the icon we know today.
TIP’s production of EVITA will also utilize the season’s theme of community by making the narrator character of Che into a role that ensemble members share, like a Greek chorus. As such, solos within several of the show's iconic songs sung by Che ("Oh, What a Circus", "A New Argentina", "High Flying Adored", etc.) will be sung by members of the ensemble.
WHAT TO PREPARE
Prepare 16–32 bars of a musical theatre song to sing a capella or with a backup track. Choose a song that shows off your personality; have fun with it! You may be asked to do some vocal exercises to demonstrate your range and/or sight read some music. You will also be sent a liability waiver and general questionnaire so you can tell us about your theater/performance background and rehearsal availability.

CASTING BREAKDOWN
We are seeking talented performers for the following roles:
Eva Perón (Evita), Female, Age: 18–33
Vocal Range: Mezzo-soprano (Low E to high G#, belt/mix to Bb)
Charismatic, ambitious, and complex, Eva rises from poverty to become Argentina’s most powerful woman. She is fiercely determined, commanding, and emotionally layered—capable of both warmth and manipulation. Requires strong stage presence, excellent acting range, and the stamina to carry the show’s demanding vocal and emotional arc.
Juan Perón, Male, Age: 35–55
Vocal Range: Baritone (A2–G4)
A military officer who becomes Argentina’s president. Authoritative, strategic, and emotionally reserved, Perón’s political ambition matches Eva’s hunger for power. He must exude control and quiet strength while showing flashes of vulnerability and genuine affection for Eva. A commanding presence and mature vocal quality are essential.
Agustín Magaldi, Male, Age: 30s–40s
Vocal Range: Tenor (B2–G4)
A tango singer of moderate fame who first helps Eva leave her small-town life for Buenos Aires. Charming but self-centered, Magaldi embodies the old entertainment world that Eva will surpass. His style should reflect 1930s Argentine popular music—smooth, romantic, and slightly exaggerated.
The Mistress, Female, Age: Late teens–mid 20s
Vocal Range: Soprano (A3–E5)
A minor yet emotionally poignant role, she represents innocence and displacement. The Mistress is briefly Perón’s lover before being replaced by Eva. She must deliver “Another Suitcase in Another Hall” with sensitivity and honesty—portraying heartbreak and quiet dignity. A clear, youthful voice and emotional transparency are key.
Ensemble / Featured Roles, All Genders, Age: 18+
Vocal Range: Various (SATB)
The ensemble plays soldiers, aristocrats, workers, and citizens, forming the political and emotional landscape of Argentina, and will collectively take on the role of Che, a cynical, intelligent narrator who represents the voice of the people who comments critically on the action, guiding the audience through Eva’s story by breaking the fourth wall with charisma and irony. Strong singing and dance ability required; versatility in character work is essential. Featured ensemble roles without solos include the Aristocrats, Workers, and Officers, each helping bring the contrast between the elite and the masses to life.
